Profile

Mary Wentworth, Director, brings deep Capitol Hill experience across both the House and Senate, having worked for key appropriators and authorizers on some of the most complex issues in national policy.

Prior to joining SMI, Mary served as Military Legislative Assistant to Congresswoman Terri Sewell, where she led the Congresswoman’s work on the House Armed Services Committee and served as a principal advisor on defense, appropriations, veterans’ affairs, and foreign policy. In this role, she managed all aspects of the Member’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) priorities and most recently led her portfolio supporting the Congresswoman’s role as Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee.

Earlier in her career, Mary held several legislative roles spanning both chambers of Congress. She led energy and homeland security appropriations for Congresswoman Lauren Underwood and oversaw appropriations efforts for Senator Tammy Baldwin, in addition to advising on tax, transportation, and housing policy. She began her career on Capitol Hill with Senator Tammy Duckworth.

Education & Credentials

Mary holds a B.A. in Public Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While on Capitol Hill, she was pursuing an M.A. in Defense and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
