20+ Years in Nuclear National Security

Joel C. Spangenberg is a nuclear energy and national security executive with leadership experience across the military, government, and industry. He is the Founder and Managing Partner of Severn Readiness, a strategic advisory firm focused on the intersection of technology, government, and strategic investment. A former member of the federal Senior Executive Service, he most recently served in the assistant secretary-level role of Acting Director of the U.S. Selective Service System. His earlier federal service included senior positions with the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, National Nuclear Security Administration, Naval Reactors, and the United States Senate.

Mr. Spangenberg brings more than two decades of experience spanning nuclear energy, national security, and advanced technology. He began his career as a U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Officer (Nuclear) and later held senior nuclear policy and government affairs roles in both government and industry, including serving as U.S. Country Head and Vice President of U.S. Government Affairs for CORE POWER. He graduated With Distinction from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering and holds master’s degrees in Engineering Management, Administrative Leadership, and National Security and Strategic Studies.

Mr. Spangenberg is a Senior Fellow for Nuclear Energy and Strategic Infrastructure at the American Council for Capital Formation, a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, and a Fellow of the American College of National Security Leaders. He also serves on the Board of Advisors of the United Coalition for Advanced Nuclear Power and is active with the American Nuclear Society.
