SMI’S Analyst with a background in defense and national security policy, including the impact of artificial intelligence on warfare
Nichole Vivanco-Stapleton, an Analyst at SMI, supports defense and national security clients through policy research, federal budget analysis, and congressional engagement. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and Leadership from the University of Virginia’s Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, where she presented research examining how artificial intelligence could reshape defense strategy, particularly in relation to Russia, and the need for updated AI legislation.
Prior to joining SMI, Nichole worked as a paralegal intern at Forthright Legal, where she researched and drafted country conditions reports, translated client testimony, and assisted with legal briefs for asylum cases. Nichole is fluent in Spanish and actively participates in several volunteer initiatives.
Nichole holds a B.A. in Public Policy & Leadership and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia.
